ChatGPT pricing by country is not a single fixed public table. As of this March 11, 2026 publication, OpenAI’s reference prices include Free at $0, Go at $8 per month in the U.S., Plus at $20 per month, and Pro at $200 per month, while Team/Business, Enterprise, Edu, and API billing follow different rules.[1][2] Your country mainly changes the checkout currency, tax treatment, payment methods, app-store price display, and whether a local promotion applies. OpenAI has not published an official country-by-country price table for every plan. Use this guide to compare the worldwide rules before you subscribe or expense a plan.[3]

What changes by country

Country affects the checkout more than it affects the underlying ChatGPT plan. The same plan name can appear in USD on the web, a local currency on the web, or a different app-store display price on iOS or Android. OpenAI says its multi-currency billing applies to standard paid plans, while Enterprise and Education plans are managed separately.[3]

The biggest variables are currency, tax, payment method, platform, and availability. Currency decides whether you see USD, EUR, GBP, INR, BRL, JPY, or another supported currency. Tax decides whether VAT, GST, sales tax, or a similar charge appears at checkout or on your invoice. Payment method decides whether cards, UPI, Pix, GoPay, Link bank debit, or local wallets are available. Platform decides whether OpenAI, Apple, or Google manages the subscription.

There is one important limit. OpenAI has not published an official country-by-country price table that lists every local amount for every ChatGPT plan. Its billing help points users to the live ChatGPT pricing page for exact subscription prices in their location.[3] That makes the live checkout the source of truth. This article gives you the reliable baseline and the country rules that determine why your final amount may differ.

Availability also matters. OpenAI maintains a supported-country list, and it warns that accessing or offering access to ChatGPT outside supported countries and territories may result in account blocking or suspension.[8] Do not use a VPN or reseller account just to chase a lower regional price.

Country comparison table

This table compares how pricing behaves in common regions. It does not claim to list every final local amount, because OpenAI has not published that full official table. It shows the country-level items that most often change your total.

For most readers, the best comparison is not “which country is cheapest?” It is “what will my account actually renew at next month?” That answer depends on the account, country selector, tax profile, and purchase channel.

How to check your exact local price

Use the web checkout first. Sign in to ChatGPT, open the pricing page, and confirm that the country selector at the bottom of the pricing page is set correctly. OpenAI’s iOS upgrade help specifically says to check the selected country if you do not see the desired plan or currency.[4]

  1. Open ChatGPT on the web and sign in to the account you will actually use.
  2. Open the plan picker or pricing page and confirm the country shown for checkout.
  3. Select Go, Plus, Pro, or Business only far enough to see the final amount before confirming.
  4. Check whether tax is shown separately or included in the displayed price.
  5. If you may subscribe through iOS or Android, compare the app-store price before buying.
  6. Save the receipt or invoice after purchase, especially if you need reimbursement.

If you already have an active subscription, changing currency is not always instant. OpenAI says active subscribers continue to be billed in their current currency; to switch to a newly supported currency, you need to cancel and resubscribe once the current billing period ends.[3] If you need help with that process, use our guide to cancel a ChatGPT subscription.

Tax can change the final number. OpenAI’s billing help says eligible customers can add a Tax ID, and applicable taxes may be charged if the Tax ID is invalid or absent.[12] If a charge looks wrong after purchase, start with our refund policy guide.

Line chart: base price stays 100 while total with tax rises from 100 to 125 as tax rate goes 0% to 25%.

Mobile app billing can change the number you see

Mobile subscriptions can be confusing because Apple or Google may manage the subscription instead of OpenAI. OpenAI’s billing help says subscriptions bought through the iOS or Android app are managed by the Apple App Store or Google Play and appear in local currency.[3] That can affect the receipt, renewal controls, refund path, and displayed price.

The U.S. App Store listing for ChatGPT showed in-app purchases such as ChatGPT Go at $8.00, ChatGPT Plus at $19.99, and ChatGPT Pro 20x at $200.00.[11] OpenAI’s own help and pricing pages usually describe Plus as $20 per month, so a one-cent display difference can be normal depending on platform presentation.[5]

Also note that not every upgrade path is identical on mobile. OpenAI’s iOS help says that to upgrade from Free to Pro, you must upgrade from the web.[4] If you subscribe through the wrong channel, you may need to cancel in the store where you bought it, not only inside ChatGPT.

Business, Enterprise, Edu, and API country rules

Business pricing is the successor to Team pricing. OpenAI says ChatGPT Team was renamed ChatGPT Business on August 29, 2025, and that the rename itself did not change pricing, limits, or security.[6] As of the pricing page used for this publication date, Team was listed at $25 per user per month with annual billing or $30 per user per month with monthly billing.[1] Country can still affect the local currency, taxes, and payment method shown at checkout.

Enterprise is different. OpenAI lists Enterprise as a contact-sales plan rather than a public fixed price.[1] That means procurement details can matter more than currency conversion. Large organizations may care about invoicing, data controls, contract terms, support, and regional data handling. Start with our Enterprise quote guide if you need a procurement checklist.

Edu is also sales-led. OpenAI says ChatGPT Edu is for schools that want to deploy AI broadly to students and campus communities, and it tells institutions to reach out to learn more.[7] OpenAI has not published an official universal Edu price. For campus buyers, the right question is not only price per user. It is also eligibility, admin controls, privacy terms, and whether the institution covers the cost. See our Edu pricing guide for that path.

The API is not a ChatGPT subscription add-on. OpenAI states that API usage is separate and billed independently from ChatGPT Plus, and its multi-currency help says API credit purchases are currently limited to USD.[5][3] Exact token prices change by model, so use OpenAI’s API pricing page as the primary source for model-by-model rates.[13]

Line chart: fixed subscription stays at 100 while usage-based API cost rises from 0 to 200 over 10 usage units.

If your team is choosing between individual Plus seats, Business seats, and API spend, compare both subscription and usage costs. Our chatgpt business pricing guide explains workspace seats, while the API guide covers token-based billing.

Ways to avoid overpaying

Do not buy a shared “cheap country” account from a reseller. You may lose access, violate account rules, or end up paying for a plan you cannot control. OpenAI warns that unsupported-country access can lead to account blocking or suspension.[8]

Be careful with promotions. OpenAI’s Go promotion rules say promotional codes may be intended for a specific audience, may not be sold or transferred, may expire, and can be revoked in cases of suspected misuse or fraud.[10] The India ChatGPT Go promotion is a good example of why dates matter: OpenAI’s release notes say that promotion ended on January 21, 2026.[9]

Before paying, check whether a legitimate deal exists. We track current options in our ChatGPT promo code and ChatGPT Plus discount code guides. Students should also check whether their school offers Edu access before buying an individual subscription.

Finally, cancel before renewal if you are testing a plan for one month. If you only need Plus for a project, upgrade on the web, mark your renewal date, and cancel before the next billing cycle. If you are still deciding, compare Free and paid access in our ChatGPT Free vs Plus guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does ChatGPT Plus cost the same in every country?

No. OpenAI describes Plus as $20 per month, but local checkout can show a supported local currency, tax, or app-store display price.[5][3] OpenAI has not published an official full country-by-country table for every local Plus price.

Is ChatGPT Go available worldwide?

OpenAI announced on January 16, 2026 that ChatGPT Go was rolling out everywhere ChatGPT is available, with a U.S. price of $8 per month and localized pricing in some markets.[2] You still need to confirm that ChatGPT itself is supported in your country.

Why is the price different on iPhone or Android?

If you subscribe through the iOS or Android app, Apple or Google manages the subscription and the charge appears in local currency.[3] That can change the displayed price, receipt source, renewal controls, and refund process.

Is Team still a separate ChatGPT plan?

No. OpenAI says ChatGPT Team was renamed ChatGPT Business on August 29, 2025.[6] You may still see older articles, invoices, or company notes use “Team,” but the current naming is Business.

Does a ChatGPT subscription include API usage?

No. OpenAI says API usage is separate and billed independently from ChatGPT Plus.[5] API credit purchases are currently limited to USD, even if your ChatGPT subscription is billed in a local currency.[3]

Can I use a VPN to get a cheaper ChatGPT price?

You should not do that. OpenAI warns that accessing or offering access to ChatGPT outside supported countries and territories may result in account blocking or suspension.[8] Use the checkout country tied to your real account, payment method, and tax profile.
